HMS Royal Prince was quite possibly one of the first Royal Navy units on German territory at the end of World War 2. Captain C.H. Petrie RN was responsible for the commissioning of a German Hospital ship (KMB 8) in the harbour as HMS Royal Prince.
At present, the only information is that the establishment was in Emden from 1945 to 1946 and was responsible for the operation of port facilities, disarming of ships and sailors, and the control of captured/surrendered personnel. HMS Royal Prince later moved to Krefeld, and was reportedly there from 1949 to 1960. Did this unit remain in Emden until 1949?
Details of a Royal Marine presence in the Dockyard area are yet to be confirmed.
