HMS Princess Louise

1945-1946

HMS Princess Louise was based in Brunsbuttel, at the mouth of the River Elbe. Firm dates are unclear as yet, but it has been found that the establishment was there from 1945 to 1946. Responsible for the clearance of German naval minefields in the Elbe Estuary and the entrance to the Kiel Canal. Also present at some stage was “Z” Battery (Army or Navy unknown at this time). The degaussing of ships was also carried out here, in connection with mine clearance duties.
