Arms identified on, and with thanks to
Aurich is a small town about 50km/30miles west of Wilhelmshaven. Until recently, it was thought that there had been little military presence in the area, but research has shown that the Canadians were here for a short time in the form of the Canadian War Crimes Department (North West Detachment) during a trial. An article found shows them as being in Maple Leaf Barracks, which rings of the Canadian Army being there. Apparently, one block was renamed Normandy Block in that time.
There is also reference to the Danish Brigade having a presence there at some time, and that is still a subject of research and confirmation.
There are also a couple of photographs on Flickr from username y10k, but I cannot get into the site to get a closer look. There are two that show the Barracks name plate.
Any details will be gratefully received.
