I served at Fife Barracks from 1958-1960 for my period of National Service. It was a purpose built modern camp built to hold the Command Pay Office for the BAOR. Command. It was operational from 1957 (The Pay Office was previously based in Lübbecke in the North.) It was almost entirely staffed by the RAPC with a handful of G.D. staff from various corps and regiments from around BAOR. All duties such as guards, pickets were done by Pay Corps members.

Fife Barracks, Mönchengladbach, was also the home of 500 Mobile Movements Troop RCT for some time in the 1970s. In around 1978, 500 Troop moved into Ayrshire Barracks (North) to join 23 Regt RCT. Both these units had taken over the building previously occupied by the RAOC – I think it was the vehicle park unit.
