On 16 April 1945 Iserlohn capitulated to the Americans to prevent its destruction.

When 1st Corps was formed in the early 1900s the headquarters were in Aldershot, hence the naming of Flak Kaserne, needing more room for the supporting troops the Royal Corps of Signals were established in Winkelman (Artillerie) Kaserne later renamed Mons Barracks the same as the barracks named in Aldershot.

It was handed over to the Canadians and christened Fort Qu’Appelle in 1968.

When handed back to the Bundeswehr in 1970 the Barracks were used by Fallschirmjägerbataillone (Paratroopers) until the 1990s then were then converted for civilian use.
