Visit of Queen Elizabeth – Sennelager 1965

Queen Elizabeth II visited BAOR on more than one occasion. This page is dedicated to the visit of Her Majesty, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Wednesday 26th May 1965.

The images below are of the programme for that visit, and I am grateful to Donald Remfrey for the scans of the pages. I have altered them slightly to allow a follow-on from one page to the next.

Front Cover

Page 1 detailing the timings

Pages 3 and 4 showing the sequence of events and those on Parade

Page 5 showing details of the Mounted Parade, and bands taking part.

The back cover is blank except for the print details shown below, included to see if it stirs any memories of that unit.

20th Armd Brigade formed up for a mounted parade, and were inspected by H.M. The Queen in 1965,at the Windmill site, Sennelager Training Area. The 17/21 Lancers in the nearby Athlone Barracks hosted a great deal of the preparation. It was not as big as the later 1977 parade. The following Regiments took part in the drive past, under the command of Brig; R.E.Ward DSO.MC.

1st RHA
3rd Carabiniers
The Royal Dragoons (1st Dragoons)
